The Primary Menu refers to the main navigation menu located at the top right of your website.
Creating a Menu
If you do not have a menu created yet, follow these steps:
- Go to Appearance > Menus in your WordPress dashboard.
- Click the “Create a new menu” link.
- Give your menu a name and click the “Save Menu” button.
- Under Menu Settings, assign the menu to the Primary Menu location.
Adding Items
Once your menu is created, you can begin adding items to it:
- On the left panel, select items to add—such as Pages, Posts, Custom Links, or Categories.
- If you’re using custom post types or taxonomies and don’t see them listed, click Screen Options at the top of the page and ensure the boxes are checked.
- After adding items, drag and drop them to reorder as desired.
- To create submenus (nested items), drag a menu item slightly to the right under another item. This creates a hierarchy.
- Click on a menu item to configure its Navigation Label and additional options.
Menu Customization Tips
- You can create multiple custom menus.
- If your theme supports multiple menu locations, assign different menus accordingly.
- You may also use custom menus inside widget areas using the Custom Menu widget.
