Why Can’t I See/Add Certain Items to My Menus?

If you’re trying to add specific items—such as categories, tags, post types, pages, or custom taxonomies (like “Regions” or “Types” in WP Job Manager)—to your menu but they aren’t visible on the Appearance ▸ Menus screen, don’t worry. This is a common WordPress behavior, and it’s easily fixable.

WordPress hides certain menu item types by default in order to reduce clutter. However, you can enable them manually using the Screen Options panel.

Steps to Enable Hidden Menu Items

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance ▸ Menus.
  2. Look at the top-right corner of your screen and click the Screen Options tab to expand the available settings.
  3. You’ll see a list of additional content types (Pages, Posts, Categories, Tags, Regions, Listings, etc.).
  4. Check the boxes next to the content types you want to be able to add to your menu.
  5. These items will now appear in the left-hand panel, and you can add them to your menu as needed.

Tip:

If you’re using themes like Listify or Jobify with plugins such as WP Job Manager, custom taxonomies like Regions or Listing Types may be hidden until you enable them through this method.
